Summer Eating 101
Now that summer is in full effect, we thought it would be a good idea to share a few helpful eating tips for the season. As we venture to the beach, mountains or an adventurous jog to explore a new neighborhood, we also need to consider some diet additions to make sure we’re replacing the energy and nutrients needed for peak performance.
All about Potassium
Most of us understand we need potassium in our diets but we don’t necessarily know why. Our friends at Clean Plates provide a great primer on why this critical electrolyte does the body good — from fluid regulation to nerve transmission and blood pressure balance, and essential for muscle function. And if you’ve had your fill of bananas, the article lists some other great foods to incorporate into your diet to make sure you get the potassium you need. If you’re interested in some potassium rich Soupure products, check out our Zucchini Basil and Japanese Sweet Potato.
Snacks become an extremely important way to replenish our energy over the long summer days. Finding nutrient rich snacks can often be a problem. Livestrong did a roundup of their top snack faves – check out this great 20 Easy, Healthy Summer Snacks article. And in case you missed it, be sure to read our post last week on Soupure’s top 5 summer snacks.
There is nothing like sitting down to a dinner you’re excited about at the end of a long summer day. We love to follow chef Yotam Ottolenghi (vegetarian chef, writer and restaurateur) and are super excited to try Bon Appetit’s “7 Ottolenghi Summer Recipes Featuring Pomegranate, Fava Beans, and More”.
